From the Beginning…
Glitz & Ears is a women’s clothing, jewelry, and accessories store. Glitz & Ears is located in Clinton Township, Michigan and is recognized by most as THE “unique” in apparel and accessories for women!
How they were started:
The idea behind “Glitz & Ears” was started by its current owner and founder, Donna Hassig, in 1987. The owner had always dreamed of opening a business in the women’s fashion industry and decided to start by hand crafting jewelry and selling it at craft and jewelry shows. After developing a small clientele, she set up some tables and displays in the basement of her home for her newly found customers to come view her merchandise. Customers began to grow rapidly and were asking for other things besides hand crafted jewelry. She started purchasing items of clothing and was one of the first stores in Michigan to start using rhinestones on clothing. Demand still grew, so she decided to start researching for outside sources to purchase merchandise from, instead of making her own. After years of travel and research, her new sources allowed her to start offering her customers much more than she imagined. She began carrying clothing, handbags, jewelry, gifts and accessories. Her new products became so successful; she could hardly keep things in stock. Glitz & Ears searches daily; high and low around the world, for new suppliers of trendy fashions to remain the most unique and advanced store in the industry.
By 2004, Glitz & Ears was the “underground hotspot” and known throughout Metro-Detroit by women of all ages for unique and inexpensive items, and there was no possible way to continue business out of her basement. In late 2005 plans began, to open Glitz & Ears as an actual retail store. On June 10th of 2006, Glitz & Ears celebrated its grand opening, on the Southwest corner of 18 Mile and Garfield, in Clinton Township, Michigan.
The “Glitz & Ears” name:
The name “Glitz & Ears” derived from what the owner’s original business was. “Glitz”: the owner of Glitz & Ears is a very trendy and glitzy person. She has always liked to incorporate shiny things into her fashions like rhinestones that would set her apart from the rest. “Ears”: When she first started making jewelry, she started with Earrings. After a lot of thought, she came up with “Glitz & Ears”.
Glitz & Ears now:
Since the Grand Opening in 2006, Glitz & Ears expanded by doubling the size of their store, and changed its look to keep up with modern times. Glitz & Ears ran a very extensive construction project expanding into the vacant next door and completely remodeled the existing store; turning it into one wide open, beautiful store. Except for the final 4 days, the store remained open to service our customers during the entire construction phase. Glitz & Ears celebrated its re-Grand Opening on November 27th, 2009 and the store remains on the cutting edge today.
In 2010, Glitz & Ears began its next endeavor, the Glitz & Ears Web store, which was well planned and thought out by the Glitz & Ears team. It took several months of hard work and dedication to build, as the owner specifically wanted the web store to be state of the art and easy to navigate.
